The new Fast & Furious movie comes out tomorrow, so young drivers might be tempted to imitate what they see on the big screen.
Southern Oregon has a place where drivers can legally and safely race their ride. The Southern Oregon racing club started "Beats the Streets" program to promote the sport of drag racing, and educate young drivers on the dangers of street racing.
Southern Oregon Subaru has helped with reducing entry fees for drivers who race more than once. They also helped with the purchase of an old police car called the "Top Cop Car," so officers can race too. The retired police car has been modified to race against other vehicles and it can go up to 110 mph.
At Champion Raceway you can now try to outrun the cops without getting a ticket. However, the "Top Cop Car" is probably faster than the car you'll bring. If you don't have a turbo charged car, that's ok. You can bring any vehicle to race on the track.
Races are at the Champion Raceway which opens the 2009 season with a Test and Tune session on April 17th, and the Cascade Block Friday Night Drag Races start on April 24th |
