Some of my friends race at woodburn and race there for points. One of them told me he lost in the first round at 90% of the races there and all to dragsters or open wheeled vehicles. He and many other competitors think that the super pro class should be split into two seperate catagories. At the track I complete at we only have a couple dragsters there so it would not be such a good thing? But I can see his point in terms of the visibility that an open wheeled vehicle has over a fully caged door car. And if this where not an issue why did NHRA seperate the top dragster and top sportsman classes that are basically very fast super pro vehicles?

I understand what you are saying. Things can go both ways though. If us dragsters go to a track that does not have much traction, or you get to the final round and it starts sprinkling right as you leave the line (ya been there) then the door cars have the edge. Because of this traction issue, a lot of people prefer to run door cars because at normal races, they don't prep the track very well.
On top sportsman and top dragster, the main reason they separated those classes was because the door car guys simply had to put out soo much more money to try to keep up with the class and it was kind of unfair.
What it really comes down to, is cutting that light. Ask Lyle Hood. I've had the privledge to race with some incredible drivers, and honestly most of them are door car racers. There will always be advantages and disadvantages to certain cars and classes, but the point is, run your own game because only you can beat yourself. |

When a track is not prepped right I don't think it matters what your driving?
One week ago I got a wild hair and went to PIR and raced on a wednesday night. Made it to the semi's and it was all door cars. Last night I was watching PIR live on the computer and the final three where all dragsters so go figure.
I agree with you on the cost issues involved in a top sporstman car vs top dragster. I know what it cost me to run a mid 9 second door car and no way could I ever afford to run a top sportsman door car unless I win the lottery.
