This is a Letter to the Editor in the Medford Mail Tribune 2-14-2010. I think we all should write our owns Letters in rebuttal to this person.
Sports park is behind the times
Will we wait until we are forced to see that the age of the internal combustion engine for sport and waste is coming to an end? Will we keep planning on raceways, drag strips, ATV/OHV tracks, etc.?
I would hope that we could come up with something truly innovative to do with the 715 acres known as Jackson County Sports Park. Even economically, the price of scarce oil will decrease all of these activities in time. These are loser ideas for economic growth for the Rogue Valley.
Environmentally, it is worth remembering that we are in a valley that still is prone to stagnant air inversions with unhealthy air potential that will be more challenging to control as the valley grows. And we are not actually separate from the rest of the globe; we have a responsibility to act morally on a local level.
How about considering an all-human-powered race and sports center with BMX biking, road bike racing, frisbee golf, competitive climbing, "strongest man" competitions, solar-car racing? Let's be creative about our future. Let's show the world that the Rogue Valley is a responsible, forward-looking community. — John Shonerd, Medford

I have to respond to Johns comments:
First of all the things you speak of are all good and you should continue to advance those ideas in your own sports park.
Second there are much larger issues in this country that if addressed would make it possible for your ideas and ours to both co-exist.
Third is that quite frankly everyone that races at the sports park also knows that we are part of the globe that we all live on, But we also all know that your definitley NOT. You and your leftist thinking only want it one way (YOURS), and you want to try and make everyone conform to your way of thinking.
Fourth comment I have is, do you drive a car? (shame on you) do you eat? (shame on you) doyou live in a house? (shame on you), have you ever flown in a plane? (shame on you).etc.etc.etc. My point is that everything that everyone does can be blamed for all the problems that you fear, YOURSELF included.Your a typical leftist hypocrit. |

The John Shonereds of this world are way smarter than any conservative. Just ask him he won't hesitate to tell you. In his minds eye drag racers are nothing more than dumb rednecks. Although I would bet money he has never even had a conversation with a drag racer?
I deal with these individuals on a daily basis and I am so sick of it I'm expaditing my retirement so I can leave the multnomah county area and isolate myself and family from their so called progressive idealogys. Some of that I consider imoral and out right repulsive! |

G642 thank you for your support. Many wont take your same stand either out of fear, (and/or being weak) or they are like John. I for one fear the ones that wont take a stand, the ones like John you know where they stand and can agree to disagree(if you know what I mean) lol.
The others who wont speak up because they are to afraid of being labeled just kills me. None the less I can feel your pain, and commend you in protecting your family as much as possible, even though sometimes in the effort to protect we sometimes dont always achieve our goals.
I wish you the best in your endeavours, and anytime you need, I will stand with you and your family,............. against the Johns of this world. |

I stopped by the Parks Dept office on my way home from class today. The gal at the desk said she knows of at least 4 RFP's as she is the one that stamped them received. She will call me with info as to when and maybe who as soon as she knows.

I won what I call a small victory here at work that applies to the john shoenereds of this world? I've worked for this company for 14 years and everytime I drive into the parking lot I read nothing but left-wing bumper stickers. So many I finally said enough and had a few custom ones of my own made up and placed them on my truck. Well guess what happened? One of those so called freedom of speach lovers complained about my stickers to management and the union. Both sides told the complainer to get over it that I acutally have rights. I told my manager and the union rep this? "When I come into the parking lot and don't see any left wing bumper stickers I will gladly remove mine from my vehicles until that day comes they stay where they are!" Nice to get a little victory here and there. |
